Depending on the individual, it might mean the time we did something stupid and should have died, but, miraculously we didn't. Or it might mean the time we asked God for help with something seemingly insurmountable, He helped, but we found out later that it wasn't that big a problem. I think it means something different to everybody.
As a Catholic, I believe humans are basically good. As a historian, however, I know that humans act in ways that are not only not in their best interest, but are downright rotten. For years, I've tried to figure out why people act in ways that are consistently stupid. As water is the universal solvent, I've discovered the universal answer to the question, "Why did they do that?" The answer is, because they're idiots.
